2 tblsp. margarine or shortening

1/4 cup sugar

1 tsp. salt

2 cup boiling water

2 pkg yeast

1/2 cup warm water

1 tsp. sugar

6 1/4 cup flour

Egg Wash

1 egg

2tblsp. water


In a large bowl combine shortening, sugar and salt. Pour 2 cup boiling water over mix. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and 1 tsp. sugar. Add cooled liquid. Stir in flour. Stir till well mixed. Cover and let stand 1 hour. Divide dough in half. Roll into a rectangle (like a jellyroll). Place on a baking sheet sprayed with oil and dusted with cornmeal. Cut slashes in top. Brush with egg mixture. Cover and let stand till doubled. Bake at 350 25 minutes or till golden brown.
